Clinical Toxicology and adverse drug events monitoring (Partim II)

Course contents : After the description of biochemical mechanism of toxicity of main chemical products, this course is dedicated to the study of action and side effects of drugs, drugs of abuse, volatile substances, heavy metals, pesticides, ....
Course objective : The goal is to show to the students the multidisciplinarity of toxicolgical sciences.

1.Different chemical products (including drugs and drugs of abuse) which are at risk for human health;

2.Metabolism of xenobiotics, related to toxicity;

3. Pharmacokinetic steps, and importance for therapeutic drug monitoring ;

4.Major drugs side effects, major drug-drug interactions;

5.Belgian and european systems of pharmacovigilancy.
Prerequisites : Not appliable
Workshops : 25 hours of practical sessiosn are organized on mondays and wednesdays, during 3 weeks, in the 1st and the 2nd part of the year, with :

- visit of routine laboratory;

- visit of forensic part of the laboratory;

- discussion of drug-drug interactions;

- problem based learning on pharmaco or toxicovigilancy.
Organization : 33 sessions of 90 minutes, 1 to 2 times a week (1st and 2 nd part of the year)

Assessment : Written evaluation in january and june
