| Course contents :
| We shall consider here the concept of "civil society" and "globalization" by theoretical and empirical approaches while trying on the one hand to bring to the foreground a cleanly sociological glance and on the other hand to promote a reflexion on these concepts'places in the field of development. | |

| Course objective :
| To approach scientifically the concepts of globalization and civil society.
To understand the social and cultural effects of the globalization.
To understand the place token by the concept of civil society in the policies and contemporary practices of the development. | |

| A good passive knowledge of English is helpful. | |

| Students presentations based on books or articles readings. | |

| Organization :
| This course will be held during the second semester.
15 hours
- Session 1. "Introduction". Followed by " Civil society: History and current events of a concept in three dimensions ".
- Session 2. " Civil Society and contemporary development policies"
- Session 3. " Some economic, social and political aspects of the globalization. Sociological glances " (Beck, Castels, Touraine, Giddens...)
-Weeks 4 and 5. 'Social Movements and International Civil Society within a globalized context' (Altermondialist, Fair Trade, Landless Workers'Movement...)
15h. Students' presentations based on a notebook of readings (given during the first lecture). | |
