Ecoethology of the marine animals

Course contents : With more than 29,600 species, fishes are common in quite all aquatic environments. They show metabolic, morphologic but also behavioural adpatation, that make them impassioning to study.
Using works of Liege researchers, we try to give an overview of main evolutionary behaviours :
  • food
  • protection
  • reproduction
  • communication
Course objective : Give to students an overview about fish diversity and behavioural ecology, and interest them to a reflexion process about exemples studied by Liege searchers.
Prerequisites : General knowledge about living organsims and population biology, level Bachelor.
Good command of french language
Workshops : During multidisciplinar stay in Stareso, we organize several dives to observe main species and their breeding behaviour.
Organization : Four 3 hours lecture, with theoretical overview and presentation of works by our searchers.
Demonstration dives
Written notes : Powerpoint presentation used during lectures.
Bibliography.
Assessment : Preparation of a research project on a theme, discussion about this project.
On basis of photographical documents, we'll also discuss about genral knowledge in ichtyology.
