Seminar on prehistoric archaeology

Duration :30h Th, 10d FT Exc.
Credits/ECTS :
1re année du grade de master en histoire de l'art et archéologie, orientation archéométrie, à finalité approfondie5
Holder(s) :Marcel Otte
Course contents : Via theoretical considerations and anthropological examples, each cagetory of human behaviour is addressed and analysed: from prayer to hunting, music to domesticity. The principal idea is to bring out universal behaviours by identifying the range of variability according to cultural tradition or phase, in order to observe equilibrium systems linking each of these functions via specific and traditional formulas. These modes of equilibrium constitute the key to successive cultures at the same time as their articulation in time is manifested as a universal dynamic, linking culture, anatomy, nature and history, in which only the archaeological approach can take into account long-term change.
Course objective : The course focuses on anthropology as informed by archaeology.
Prerequisites : None, but a minimum of knowledge in the sciences is helpful.
Organization : Duration and period: 30h + 10 days of excursions, trips and field training, 2nd term.

Classroom and schedule: Prehistory Museum(building A4), Tuesday, 2-4 pm.
