Excavation Techniques

Course contents : Excavations; recording, drawing and topographical techniques; stratigraphical analysis; publications. Field techniques in some peculiar contexts: burials, prehistoric excavations in caves, protohistoric excavations in the Near East, medieval excavations, rescue archaeology in town.
Course objective : To go further in the capacity of managing the archaeological excavations.
Prerequisites : The student must have participated to the course about the excavation techniques in the 2nd year of Bachelor's degree.
Workshops : At least, 10 days of participation on an excavation.
Organization : 30 h + 10 days of excavation, at the second quadrimestre.
Room "Petit Physique", Tuesday 4-6 PM.
Written notes : A specific literature will be communicated during the lessons.
Assessment : Oral examination at the end of the year on the totality of the subject, including participation on an excavation. June session.
