Course contents : An introduction to sedimentary petrology, magmatic and metamorphic petrology and geochemistry and paleontology.
Course objective : Sedimentary petrology: general knowledge of the different classes of sedimentary rocks and depositional environments.

Paleontology: general knowledge of paleontological topics: fossilization, speciation and evolution, mass extinctions, oring and evlution of early Life on earth and implications for astrobiology, palynology, origin and evolution of land plants

Magmatic and metamorphic petrology: general overview of the main types of magmatic and metamorphic rocks and their conditions of formation
Prerequisites : general geology
Workshops : Study of rock samples and thin sections.

observations of microfossils, fossil plants and invertebrates; visit of palynology and thin section laboratories.

Observation of macroscopic rock samples and their corresponding thin sections.
Organization : Lectures are organized in three modules, each of them given by a specialist.
