Course contents : general knowledge of main microfossil groups , modern analytical methods in micropaleontology, and illustration of their applications in paleobiology, paleoecology, paleogeography, paleoclimatology, paleooceanography, astrobiology, biostratigraphy and lithogenesis.
Course objective : chapter headings:

* 1: introduction and fossilisation-taphonomy

* 2: origin and evolution of life in the Precambrian - astrobiology

* 3: palynology

* 4: acritarches-prasinophytes

* 5: dinoflagellates

* 6: chitinozoans and scolecodonts

* 7: foraminifers

* 8: ostracodes and other calcareous microfossil

* 9: siliceous microfossils and conodonts

* 10: applications of micropaleontology (student presentations)
Workshops : observation of different microfossil groups with microscope and binocular, small research project , redaction and oral presentation of a paper from scientific articles, two excursions and visit of palynology, thin section and electronic microscopy laboratories
