Introduction to geographical information systems (GIS)

Course contents : - Introduction: geographic information in raster mode
- Modelling of geographic processes (raster)
- Multiple constraints evaluation problems and map algebra
- Multiple criteria problems with one or several objectives
- Introduction to spatial decision support
Course objective : - Formalizing geographic data and processes
- Geographic macro modelling
- Learning by applications and projects
- Handling of digital maps, digital elevation models and remotely sensed data
Prerequisites : Windows environment on PC

Useful: Cartography, Spatial Analysis and Remote Sensing
Workshops : Integrated during the lectures, with practical works achieved on PC with dedicated software
Organization : Beginning of the 2d semester

Intensive lectures (one or two weeks - 3 to 6 h / day)

Scheduled with the students
Written notes : - Slides PowerPoint
- Slides in PDF format available on a FTP server devoted to the students
Assessment : Written examination, consisting in the modelling and solving of an application with the help of the dedicated software used during the practical works.
