3rd year of a Bachelor's degree in civil ingeneering sciences, civil ingeneer orientation5
Holder(s) :René Maquoi
Course contents : Part 1 - Methods of structural analysis : Introduction - Basic theorems - Flexibility method (classical) - Stiffness method (classical, simplified, use of software) - Moment distribution method - Trusses - Influence lines - Plastic global analysis (basic theorems, static and kinematic methods) - Second order effects - Worked examples.

Part 2 - Introduction to elastic stability: Theoretical background - Flexural buckling - Lateral torsional buckling - Torsional and flexural-torsional buckling - Worked examples.
Course objective : Deliver the background of the methods of global analysis and train to the determination of internal forces and displacements in a given structure subjected to a given loading.
Prerequisites : Strength of materials - Elementary statics.
Workshops : A substantial part of the lectures is devoted to exercises and worked examples.

Also the students have the opportunity to check their knowledge in the field at the occasion of evaluations organised during the semester.
Organization : Lectures and exercises are organised alternately.
Written notes : Available.
Assessment : Separate oral (theory) and written (exercises) examinations.
