 | From the point of view of decision-making aid in sciences of the environment, this course is interested in graphic modelling under the Bayesian paradigm. The graph theory makes it possible to visualize the ideas of the researcher as for the operation of the system that he studies. By identifying variables (nodes) and relations (arrows) he works out a realistic statistical model and transparency that he can build with the experts of the field of interest even if they are not statisticians. Graphic modelling is a marriage between the theory of probability and the graph theory. It is a natural tool to model complex systems by quantifying uncertainties. The fundamental idea is the modularity based on the important concept of conditional independence: the complex system is the combination of the various modules that constitute it. The probabilities are cement of this assembly. They ensure that the system is consistent and allow the interfacing with the data. The WinBUGS software, developed at the point by a team of most powerful (Spiegelhalter and Al, 1996-2004), offers a graphic interface allowing an easy development of the Bayesian network (statistical model) which is then automatically translated into lines of code. This software is free available on the site: http://www.mrc-bsu.cam.ac.uk/bugs.

 | | Collection of environmental information |

 | Explaining the main principles and the conditions of data collection and presenting the particularities of data collection for human sciences (two titulars to tackle both aspects). The aim is to allow the student to examine the data collection methods with a critical eye. |

 | Leading the student to select a suitable data processing method in the frame of an environmental study and to interpret the results with criticism. |
 | | The model like tool for monitoring of the environment, Partim: analysis of the systems |

 | Fournir les bases de l'analyse des systèmes et montrer comment cette discipline permet d'appréhender la modélisation des systèmes environnementaux. |
 | | The model like tool for monitoring of the environment, Partim: Use of the models, 9h T |

 | To understand the bases of graphic modeling and to be able to solve a problem under WinBUGS. |
