Chemical Upgrading of Coal

Course contents : Introduction. Classification of coals. Thermodynamics of coal gasification reactions. Kinetics of coal gasification reactions. Vapogasification. Hydrogasification. Pyrolysis. The gasifiers (fixed-bed, fluidized-bed, entrained-bed, molten salt). Coal liquefaction (direct and indirect liquefaction). Commercial processes (Lurgi, Winkler,...). Underground coal gasification.
Course objective : Notions to calculate gasifiers.
Prerequisites : Bachelor in Engineering or in Chemistry.
Workshops : No workshop.
Organization : First semester
Written notes : Documents available at the first lesson.
Assessment : Oral examination but the student has at least one hour for preparation.
