| Course contents :
| Course in Chemical Kinetics : Stoichiometry. The extent of reaction. Definition of an elementary step. Transition-state theory. The rate of an elementary step. Thermodynamic formulation of rates. The collision theory and the equation of Arrhenius. Single reactions : open and closed sequences. The steady-state approximation. Kinetic treatment of catalytic sequences. Kinetic treatment of chain reactions. Principle of microscopic reversibility. Kinetics of polymerisation. The rate-determining step. Shift in rate-determining step. Rate-determining active centers. Ambiguity of simplified kinetics. | |

| Course objective :
| Notions of chemical kinetics necessary to calculate chemical reactors and to study heterogeneous catalysis. | |

| Prerequisites :
| Good knowledge of the basic concepts of the courses of general chemistry. | |

| Workshops :
| Analysis of an article of chemical kinetics recently published in a scientific journal. This work is carried out by groups of two students, is presented in a written report by each student and is the subject of an oral interrogation. | |
