Intangible cultural heritage of Wallonia (feasts, beliefs and folk arts)

Course contents : Introduction to the intangible heritage including definitions, history, institutions and a methodology for inquiry.

Presentation of the different fields of the intangible heritage in Wallonie : - oral expressions (dialects, songs, legends), - performing arts (music, dance and puppets theatre), - rituals and social practices (festive events, games, devoutness) and traditional knowledges and savoir-faire (handycrafts, alimentation, medicine).
Course objective : Approach to the traditional popular culture in the area called "Wallonie".
Prerequisites : none
Workshops : The student must inquire in a specific field of intangible heritage. He chooses his witness.

The delivery of the report of inquiry will take place befor oral examination.
Organization : 30 hours to be fixed

Place and schedule : to be fixed
Written notes : Françoise Lempereur sends every week, after her lesson, e-mail notes to the students. Free of charge.
Assessment : Delivery of the report of inquiry before oral evaluation.
