Course contents : The general purpose of the lectures of the "Tronc commun" is to present the bacterial diseases of domestic animals in four chapters: neonatal period, young animals, post weaning period and adults. The diseases are described by systems in each chapter, with emphasis on the bacteriological aspects. In the more specific lectures ("complément") emphasis will be put on the farm animal bacterial diseases. During the practicals ("module paraclinique"), the students will receive the information on the laboratory diagnosis of the bacterial diseases and a more specialised teaching illustrating the lectures.
Course objective : In the "Tronc commun", presentation of the bacterial diseases with emphasis on the bacteriological aspects (30 hours): aetiology, epidemiology, pathogenesis, clinical signs, lesions. During the "Compléments", presentation of the specific aspects of bacterial diseases of farm animals: diagnosis, treatment, prophylaxis, public health and notifiable diseases (10 hours)
Prerequisites : Very good knowledge of the content of other courses: pathology, histology, pharmacology, in relation with the bacterial diseases; and of course of the course of Bacteriology of the third year.
Workshops : During the practicals ("Module paraclinique"), the students will receive the information concerning laboratory diagnosis of bacterial diseases and more specific information to illustrate the lectures.
Organization : 30 hours of "Tronc commun" and 10 hours on the farm animal bacterial diseases.

Assessment : The evaluation comprises:
- a question with a long answer on the equine bacterial diseases
- a questionnary with short answers on the "Tronc commun"
- a multiple choixce questionnary on the "Tronc commun"
The practicals ("module paraclinique") will not be specifically evaluated, but any student failing to take the practicals can be refused the evaluation in May/June
