| First part (35 h)
Ethology (M. Vandenheede)
- definitions and the four questions of Tinbergen;
- history;
- behavioural mechanisms(innate and acquired) ;
- evolution of behaviour(domestication effect).
The ethogram of farm animals (B. Nicks) General characteristics of the behaviour of cattle, pigs, sheep and poultry.
Descriptive Ethology (M. Vandenheede) Description of main behaviours, illustrated by examples chosen in the ethogram of domestic animals.
Second part (10 h)
Applied Ethology of farm animals: additional informations (B. Nicks) How animal behaviour influences farm building. Some informations about abnormal behaviours.
