| | | |
| Course contents :
| The chapters of the first part of the course (general Biochemistry) are devoted to the structure and function of the major classes of cellular constituents: water, amino acids and proteins, sugars and polysaccharides, nucleotides and nucleic acids, and fatty acids and lipids. In the second part (molecular biology), the information pathways are described. This part includes the following chapters: DNA, RNA, and protein metabolism, regulation of gene expression, biosignaling and programmed cell death or apoptosis. | |
| | | |
| Course objective :
| The objective of these lectures is to explain how the collections of inanimate molecules that constitute living organisms interact to maintain and perpetuate live. The course also put the accent on the basic knowledge that is required to understand the course of Pathological Biochemistry and Clinical Biology. | |
| | | |
| Prerequisites :
| Basic knowledge of chemistry, organic chemistry, and biology. | |
| | | |
| Organization :
| The time schedules of the theoretical and practical teachings are available on the valves and on the website of the faculty. Any change is announced orally and on the university portal. The practices are compulsory | |
| | | |
| Written notes :
| The notes will be available at the 'Office des Cours de la Faculté de Médecine Vétérinaire' (Bât. B42). The reference books are the "Lehninger : Principles of Biochemistry" edited in 2005 by D.L. Nelson and M.M. Cox (W.H. Freeman and Company) and the "Molecular Biology of the Cell" edited in 2002 by B. Alberts, A. Johnson, J. Lewis, M. Raff, K. Roberts, and P. Walter (Garland Science). They are available in the department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. | |
| | | |
| Assessment :
| The evaluation of the student is organised as a 2-hour written examination, including multiple choice questions and open questions with short answers. | |
