| Course contents :
| The course aims at analysing major theories of international relations : realism (paradigm of the state of nature, paradigm of conflictual interests, balance of power as developed by Hans J. Morgenthau, etc.) and challenges of the realist theory; transnationalist trend (functionalism, complex interdependence theory, global theory, theory of imperialism); neorealism; theories of international relations after the Cold War (Fukuyama, Huntington, etc.). Its objective is to introduce students to a conceptual approach to international relations. | |

| Course objective :
| Give students a sound knowledge of what is going on on the international stage and invite them to develop a critical view of things on the basis of the various theories we will consider. | |

| Prerequisites :
| Students ought to read at least one book on the history of international relations. | |

| Ex Cathedra lectures though students are warmly invited to participate. | |

| Written notes :
| The course is mostly based on Amélie BLOM and Frédéric CHARILLON's book entitled "Théories et concepts des relations internationales", Paris, Hachette Supérieur, 2001. Students will be invited to complement the reading of the above mentioned book with other studies (books or articles).
