International Regulation of the Arms Trade

Course contents : The course is divided into in two main parts:
The first is devoted to :
- The definition of conventional and weapons of mass destruction;
- The necessity to establish export control regimes to implement States non proliferation international commitments;
- The analyse of basic elements of an export control regime.
The second part is dedicated to a comprehensive analyse of :
- Conventional arms export control regimes;
- Weapons of mass destruction export control regimes.
Course objective : The objectives of the lecture is to provide the essential elements to understand how trade control of weapons and related items is organised. The analysis focus on international instruments (formal and informal) and on EU instruments. A particular importance is given to the non-proliferation instruments articulation, which constitutes the international export control regime.

Organization : The lecture is given at the second semester on Monday (16.00 to 17.30)

Assessment : Oral exam.
