Promotion of health through physical training

Course contents : The course consists of two main units: a methodological introduction to health promotion concepts and a part on more specific intervention techniques related to students’ future professional activities.

Part one critically analyzes a number of key notions: health, prevention, health education, health promotion. It also gives a description of human behaviour models with a view to analyzing determining factors inducing or preventing new behaviours. Lastly, it includes the presentation of a planning model for health education programmes: Green’s PRECEDE-PROCEED model, which will be the object of practical applications related to the promotion of physical exercise.
Part two presents future professionals’ intervention opportunities for the prevention of lumbagos in children (school environment) and adults (work environment). The principles from back pain prevention training sessions (“école du dos”) will be presented and discussed. As regards interventions in school environments, the course describes the School Health Promotion concept and illustrates it with concrete experiments.
