| Course contents :
| - Introduction (presentation of purposes and organisation of the course, election of topics of discussion concerning the relations between the sport and the society, distribution of the responsibilities in the preparation of files aiming to nourish a debate planned during the last lessons) - Evolution of the place of the physical and sport activities in the society (significance given to the "sport" from the Antiquity to our days, current tendencies and future developments of the sport practices) - Outstanding of the socio-economic aspects of the modern Olympic Games - Structures of the sport from the local level to the national level (sport's organization in Belgium, responsibilities) - Structures of the sport at the international level (international sport federations, CIO, intergovernmental structures) - Occupations in the field of the physical and sport activities (goods and services, activity sectors, place of the bachelor in Sport & Exercises Sciences) - The sport and its drifts (debate supplied with the files made up starting from the topics identified during the first lesson) - Problems of society and sport (debate supplied with the files made up starting from the topics identified during the first lesson) - Synthesis and revision of the concepts developed during the course. | |

| Course objective :
| - To present the historical evolution of the physical and sport activities' place in the society (including the role of the Olympic Games in the development of the sport). - To illustrate the sport's structure from the local to the international levels. - To identify the place of the sport & exercise specialist in the society. - To tackle the great questions with which the sport is currently confronted (ethical aspects, globalisation, and influence of the media...). - To develop written and oral expressions as well as the synthesis spirit of the student, improve the teamwork competences. - To develop the students' critical spirit (through the analysis of current events related to the subject matter taught). | |

| Prerequisites :
| - Upstream: general knowledge regarding sport - Downstream: this course will be used as pre requisite in "Organization and management of physical and sport activities" (Year 3 and Year 4) | |

| Organization :
| The course will comprise 10 sessions. Several will be organized in order to allow the students to express themselves and to interact starting from the preparation of files relating to selected topics. | |

| Written notes :
| For most of the chapters, a copy of the slides proposed by the teacher will be available. For the other contents, a specimen of the reference documents will be provided to the students' representative. In addition, the students will have to seek other information, according to recommendations of the course's leader. | |

| Assessment :
| An evaluation of the participation in the activities (preparation and presentation of the files) is organised during the course while a final written control of the knowledge is planned during the examination period. The details relating to the assessment tools will be brought during the first lesson. | |
