 | The course focuses on two aspects of forensic medicine: - thanatological forensic medicine which describes the means, the techniques, and the methods which allow to establish the time of death as well the signs and symptoms which allow to determine the cause of the death and to identify indications of violent death or the intervention of a third party in the death mechanism. - clinical forensic medicine which studies the evaluation of lesions or sequels in victims of traumatic phenomena. The study of both aspects is coordinated with the presentation of the underlying legal concepts. |

 | After the description of the principles of psychiatric examination, the course systematically reviews the various psychiatric disorders distributed in main chapters: 1) anxiety disorders (panic disorder, specific phobia, social phobia, obsessive-compulsive disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, acute stress disorder, generalised anxiety disorder), 2) mood disorders (major depressive disorder, bipolar disorder, dysthymic disorder, cyclothymic disorder), 3) adjustment disorder, 4) somatoform and factitious disorders (somatisation disorder, undifferenciated somatoform disorder, conversion disorder, pain disorder, hypochondriasis, body dysmorphic disorder, factitious disorder), 5) alcoholism, 6) substance abuse and dependence, 7) schizophrenia and other psychoses (schizophrenia, schizophreniform disorder, schizo-affective disorder, delusional disorder, brief psychotic disorder, shared psychotic disorder), 8) impulse-control disorders, 9) eating disorders (anorexia nervosa, bulimia), 10) psychiatric emergencies.
Each disorder is presented systematically (epidemiology, symptomatology and characteristics, diagnosis, differential diagnosis, pathogeny, evolution and complications, treatment). The course presents an integrative vision of the various pathogenic mechanisms (at the biological, psychological and social levels) and the various therapeutic approaches, focusing particularly on the relational and psychotherapic aspects as well as on the rational use of psychotropic drugs (anxiolytics, antidepressants, antipsychotics). Each disorder is illustrated by video interviews of characteristic patients.
The ARC (learning of clinical reasoning) provide to the students a practical analysis of the diagnosis and treatment of the various psychiatric disorders from video recordings of characteristic patients. They are organised with an individual voting system where the student should answer to various questions related to the video recording. The distribution of answers is visualised and used to discuss the various solutions with an eventual reminding of the corresponding theory. |
