Course contents : Notions pertaining to medical psychology are discussed in the kind of concrete situations that can occur in a dispensary. The course is both practical and interactive.
Course objective : The aim of the course is to introduce students to how the notions pertaining to psychopathology and medical psychology they were taught can find practical applications - as they may have found out during their internships .
The following topics will be discussed on the basis of concrete examples:
  • Reminder of elementary notions in medical psychology
  • Elements in clinical medicine (normal vs pathological cases; severity, etc.)
  • Mourning and depression
  • Stress and anxiety
  • Functional and psychosomatic pathologies
  • Chronic illness
Prerequisites : Second year course:
"Introduction to medical psychology"

One two-hour class per week - 6 classes
Written notes : "Introduction à la psychopathologie"

Assessment : Oral examination (about 20 minutes)
Discussion of clinical cases
No written preparation

Applications to new cases or situations
Ability to synthetise and present one's case clearly
