PHYS0206-3

General physics (y compris l'introduction à l'étude universitaire de la physique)

Duration :80h Th, 30h Pr, 30h QA Sess.
Credits/ECTS :
1st year of a Bachelor's degree in chemical sciences11
1st year of a Bachelor's degree in geological sciences11
Holder(s) :Fernande Grandjean
Course contents : The general physics course includes classical mechanics, ray optics, electricity, and wave physics.
Course objective : Bac 1 Geology: The general physics course is at the foundation of the education of the geology students, who will use physical techniques in the laboratory.

Bac 1 Chemistry: The general physics course is at the foundation of the education of the chemistry students, who will use physical techniques in the laboratory and use theoretical physics in their quantum mechanics and theoretical chemistry courses.
Prerequisites : There are no specific prerequisite for this cours, because the physical concepts studied in high school are revised and deepened throughout the course. However, good skills in mathematics are very helpful.
Workshops : Laboratories in electricity, ray optics and wave physcis are organized. Problem solving sessions illustrate the course.
Organization : Lectures are given to Bac 1 in Chemistry, Physics, and Geology.
Laboratories are organized for series of 20 students. Problem solving sessions are separate for Bac 1 Geology and Bac 1 Chemistry.
Written notes : Lecture notes are sold at the beginning of the academic year.
Assessment : 4 quizzes of problems, if grade > 10/20, dispensation of problem examination.
1 exam on mechanics and ray optics at the end of the 1st quadrimester
1 laboratory examination
1 problems examination
1 theoretical examination
