| Pharmacognosy is the study of those natural substances, principally plants, that find use in medicine. | |

| Course objective :
| To treat the education of pharmacy students in the multidiciplinary field of pharmacognosy:-informations on phytochemical classes and metabolites (active principles mainly) ;-description of plants used not only in medicine but also in food and cosmetics; -survey of main toxic plants of our environment;-pharmacological interest and limitations of medicinal plants used in phytotherapy;-specific methods of quality control of pharmacognosy described in European Pharmacopoiea ( drugs, extracts, essential oils, fixed oils...) | |

| Extraction , identification and assay of active principles from medicinal plants (monographs of European Pharmacopoeia)
