Course contents :

Introduction to nuclear medicine

Basic principles of nuclear medicine. This course is based upon a few models that illustrate the rationale and clinical applications of nuclear medicine diagnostic methods, including planar, dynamic, and tomograpic scintigraphy as well as positron emission tomography.

Notions of radiodiagnostics and medical imaging (Partim I)

Presentation of the principles in the following fields: medical imaging techniques, basic symptomatology, indications and expected results of various types of tests for a given pathology

Radiotherapy (Partim I)

1 Pathology module I: general concepts - bronchial cancer and tumors of the anatomical airways;
2 Pathology module II: hypophyseal tumors, thyroid cancers, skin cancers;
3 Pathology module III: digestive, urological, gynaecological, and male genito-urinary cancers;
4 Pathology module IV: tumors of the nervous and musculoskeletal system

Course objective :

Introduction to nuclear medicine

To understand the basic principles, methods and aims of nuclear medicine, in its diagnosic and therapeutic applications.

Notions of radiodiagnostics and medical imaging (Partim I)

To acquire a systematic approach of the interpretation of medical imaging tests. To learn the medical imaging terminology in order to understand test reports. To understand the utility of the various tests prescribed for a given pathology as well as the sequence in which they are administered, the best quality-to-price ratio and radiological protection of the population. Introduce the possibilities offered by interventional radiology.

Radiotherapy (Partim I)

Acquisition of the general principles: radiobiology, radiocurability, therapeutic results and secondary effects.
Role of radiotherapy in a multidisciplinary cancer therapy strategy.

Having passed the "epreuves de Bachelier".

Basic concepts in anatomy, physiopathology, anatomopathology, and specific pathology, depending on the module during which the course is taught.

Radiotherapy (Partim I)

Having passed the 3rd épreuve de Candidat en Médecine (3rd year of the 1st cycle in the degree in medicine)

Two 90-minute sessions.

Practical Exercises: 2-hour sessions, depending on the course organization. Groups made of up to twenty students.
