| Course contents : | Orthopaedics and traumatology of the locomotor system are presented during the 5th year of medical studies (2ème doctorat) in addition to the topics presented during the 4th year in the course on rheumatology. The courses include physical management and surgical management of orthopaedic diseases or injuries, pathology and imaging procedures. Both adult and pediatric aspects are presented. | |||||

| Course objective : | The courses are intended to give the future general practitionner or emergency practitionner the relevant knowledge needed to take care of partients in the first line or medical care, at home, in the office or in an emergency department. Important topics such as bone tumours, even if the will not be taken care of by first line practitionners are also presented because those MDs must be able to recognise the symptoms of such threatening diseases are give the patient the proper orientation to the relevant specialist. | |||||

| Prerequisites : | Anatomy of the locomotor system, with the relevant fuctionnal aspects. | |||||

| Workshops : | During their final years in medical school, the students will be able to work in the outpatient department, the ward and the operating theater under the supervision of residents and senior members of the university hospital | |||||

| Organization : | The courses are given in a traditional way plus small group exercices by problem learning | |||||
| ||||||
| Written notes : | Each teacher is responsible for his documentation. For instance in the surgical course, the slides (text and illustrations) are available in prited and Cdrom form, on the CD rom, all relevant material concerning anatomy are also available as a reminder | |||||
