Course contents : The course on Cardiovascular Pathology introduces the most important clinical characteristics on the following aspects : medical, surgical, pathological, pharmacological, radiological and intensive care.
First, the cardiovascular semiology is presented. The principles of diagnostic and therapeutic management are considered for the most frequent cardiovascular diseases : coronary artery disease, vascular (arterial and venous), valvular, myocardial and pericardial diseases. The course seeks to also provide practical information on heart failure, arterial hypertension, pulmonary embolism, arrhythmias and preventive cardiology. The most important congenital heart diseases are also presented.
Course objective : The aim of the course is to prepare the students to a correct management of cardiovascular diseases. From the integration of the course and the teaching practice, the student should be able to interrogate the patient, asking the appropriate questions and interpreting correctly the answers, to examine the patients allowing deduction of diagnostic algorithm, to select the appropriate tests and interpret correctly the results, to present the main elements of decision making and therapeutic guidelines.
Prerequisites : Having passed the 1st épreuve de Docteur en Médecine (1st year of the 2nd cycle in the degree in medicine)
Workshops : Presence at consultations and ARC
Organization : The lectures take place during the first semester at the auditoire Roskam in the CHU. The schedules (lecture, CR sessions, practical exercises, hospital practice) will be available on the Faculté de Médecine website and on the Décanat's noticeboard.

The latest reform injects more interactivity and participation in the learning process. Therefore the clinical lectures have been replaced by clinical reasoning sessions.

During those sessions, groups of 8 to 10 students work with a supervisor on a clinical case. One of the students plays the role of the patient, while the others act successively as the physician. One of the students is charged with taking the notes from the interactive session.. The objective is to learn how to establish a diagnostic: the student playing the role of the patient provides the basic information at the beginning of the session and the other students build the diagnostic while interacting with him.
