| Course objective :
| The course aims to give an initiation in fundamental and medical parasitology through the study of the main parasites and their relationship with their hosts and their environment.
Both animal (protozoa and metazoa) and fungal eukaryotic parasites ara successively presented. The accent is put on their classification, morphology, physiology and biochemistry. Epidemiology, pathogenesis, clinical signs, diagnosis, treatment and prophylaxis of some parasitic diseases are also presented.
For each important biological group, a representative parasite and the associated disease are developed. | |
| | | |
| Prerequisites :
| Basic general and cellular biology, biochemistry, anatomy, histology, physiology and immunology. | |
| | | |
| Organization :
| The theoretical course is given in the first part of the academic year. It is based on a rich illustrated powerpoint presentation. | |
| | | |
| Written notes :
| A copy of the courses notes is given to the students. An illustrated CDRom in Parasitology and Parasitic Diseases is available at the secretariat. It is intended to provide a support for both theoretical and practical courses.
