Course contents : Continuous media and stress tensors. Kinematics of continuous media (Eulerian and Lagrangian descriptions, deformations). Thermomechanics of continuous media : conservation of mass, of linear and angular momentum, of energy, constitutive equations. Linear elasticity. Perfect fluid. Viscous fluid. Problems : flows round obstacles, thermo-convection, waves in continuous media, instabilities and self-organization, heat and momentum diffusion,...
Course objective : Presentation of the fundamental laws of irreversible thermodynamics and analysis of some applications.
Prerequisites : Students are assumed to be familiar with Newtonian Mechanics of particles and of systems of particles.
Written notes : A textbook is available (15 EUR). It must be ordered to the teacher before January 15th.
Assessment : Written exam on exercices. Oral exam on theory.
