Course contents : This lecture aims at introducing:

  • The general layout of a vehicle and of its major subsystems
  • Present and discuss the major components and subsystems of the vehicle
  • Discuss the functionnal and manufacturing considerations that intrervenes
  • Introduce some of the design methodology and design tools: optimization, concurrent engineering, integrated design, TRIZ method...
The outline of the lecture is:

  • General architecture of the vehicle
  • The car body
  • Elemnts of vehicle aerodyanmics
  • Security systems (apssive / active)
  • The suspension systems: types, design, suspension elements
  • The braking system
  • Choice of a motorization system
  • The transmission systems: transmission, gear boxes, clutches, differential
  • Electric systems
  • Design methodologies: optimisation, concurrent engineering, DFX, Triz method...
Course objective : Study of the general layout of a vehicle and of its major subsystems and components. Introduce some of the design tools and methodologies for vehicle design.
Prerequisites : Basic mechanics, Machine design, Machine vibrations, Finite Element method, Applied Thermodynamics.
Workshops :
  • Computer exercices (Matlab, CATIA, SAMCEF, BOSS QUATTRO)
  • Mini project
  • Visit of a car manufactory
Organization : The lecture are given during second quadrimester i.e. from February to May

13 lectures (2 hours) + one mini project + one visit of a plant
Written notes : Copy of the sildes.
