Thermofluid Quantity Measurement

Duration :30h Th, 30h Pr
Credits/ECTS :
4th year of the 5 year degree in civil engineering in electromechanics (energetics)5,5
Holder(s) :Philippe Ngendakumana
Course contents : - Caracteristics and working condition of sensors
- Sensors of temperature, heat flux, pressure, air velocity and humidity. Pyrometry and infrared thermography
- Flowmeters (volume and mass, intrusive and non-intrusive)
- Calorimetry, measurement of specific heat, latent heat, reaction heat and thermal conductivity. Enthalpy (heat) meters
- Sensors installation, physical and measured variables, dynamic and static responses
- Data acquisition system : measurement chain, sampling, signal conditionning and transmission
- International Temperature Scale (fixed points and standards)
- Sensors and measurement equipments calibration : standards, methods and reporting
- Uncertainty propagation, instrument selection and experiments planning
- Application of statistical methods to data analysis and postprocessing : data rejection, statistical tests and distributions, treatment of redundant data
- In situ measurements : consistency of available data, complementary measurements to perform the commissionning and following up of equipments and installations, on-line simulation
Course objective : Measurement of thermofluid variables, data postprocessing (statistical methods), application to models validation and systems energy management.
Prerequisites : Course MECA019-0 "Transferts de chaleur"
Workshops : Practical exercises are solved with the students and some homeworks are suggested. Three training laboratories are proposed and a visit of a manufacture is also organised.
Organization : The course consists in an oral presentation illustrated by practical examples. It is given during the first semester.
