MECA0035-1

Ttribology I (lubrication science)

Duration :30h Th, 30h Pr
Credits/ECTS :
5th year of the 5 year degree in civil engineering in electromechanics (mechanics)5
Holder(s) :N...
Substitute(s) :Marc Nélis
Course contents : Justification of fundamental assumptions in the case of incompressible thin films. Equation of Stokes, of dissipation and finally description of basic Reynolds equation. Numerical methods of treatment. Special problems like: Field of temperatures in steady-state regime, field of pressures and shaft trajectories during a non-stationary cycle (engine rods), problems of instability in journal bearings, squeeze films hydrostatic of incompressible fluids, elastohydrodynamic, rheology of greases and porous bearings. Resolution of problems.
Course objective : Overview of the various types of bearings and lubrication modes: hydrodynamic, hydrostatic and elastohydrodynamic, as well in stationary regime as in non-stationary. Study of basic rheology of greases.
Prerequisites : MECA 0011-1 ; MECA 0049-2
Workshops : The two last hours are devoted to the resolution of traditional problems inspired of the industrial experiment of laboratory EMT of Tribology.
Organization : Course organized in 4 hours units: 2 hours of course, 2 hours of practice.
Written notes : Document available from AEES/ULg
Assessment : 1 evaluation during practice; 1 evaluation during an oral examination
