Course contents : History of comparative linguistic. The Indo-European languages. The Proto-Indo-European phonological system. The Proto-Indo-European roots theory. Looking into the etymology of a word.
Course objective : To compare the modern and old languages from a historical angle. To be able to judge the etymological notes and to start a research in the field.
Prerequisites : Good knowledge of the grammar of an Indo-European language different from French.
Workshops : Output in April of a written paper dealing with the etymology of a word. Readings.
Organization : 45 h spread out over both semesters. Timetable set with the students. Opening session in September announced on Section notice board.
