Course contents :
  • For business students:
The course includes the following:

-material of general interest with some specific business texts from American or British magazines, papers or from the Internet.

-grammar exercises.

-discussion topics.

-role plays.

-presentations.

  • For sociology students:
This course is an upper intermediate level course for sociology students.

It consists of several theme-based units as well as vocabulary and language exercises.
Course objective :
  • For business students:
-Develop reading, listening, data gathering and communication skills.

-Teach and reinforce more advanced grammar and sentence structures.

-Allow students to discuss in English and make presentations in front of the whole class.

  • For sociology students:
The course provides a variety of challenging tasks and communicative activities for practising the language such as applying for a job or describing a graph.

It also enables students to practice all four language skills: reading, speaking, listening and writing. However, the emphasis will be on speaking and writing as students will be expected to do most of the listening and reading at home.
Prerequisites :
  • For business students and sociology students:
Only a small proportion of teaching time will be devoted to grammar revision. This implies that basic grammatical structures are considered part of the A-level curriculum and should be mastered.

Should students need to revise grammar at home, we suggest using either "La Grammaire anglaise de base" (available at Intercopy, Sart Tilman), Eastwood's "Practice Grammar (OUP)" or Murphy's "English Grammar in Use" (CUP).

  • For sociology students:
Students will have the opportunity to ask for further explanations in class and tests will be organised regularly to enable them to check their progress.
Workshops :
  • For business students and sociology students:
In addition to attending class regularly, students will be expected to undertake three hours study in English per week outside the classroom throughout the academic year i.e research and prepare for upcoming classes as required, organise and acquire a considerable volume of relevant vocabulary, organise their work themselves, either alone or in small teams and do the exercises from the exercise section. Students will be asked to write essays on the different topics discussed in class. Classwork throughout the year will be taken into account in the final marking.

  • For business students:
Students will be asked to make a compulsory and marked oral presentation to the class (pair work).
Organization : 2 hours per week.

Schedules and location will be available at a later date.
Written notes :
  • For business students:
