Course contents : After an introduction concerning papyrus and the history and technique of papyrology, the course covers, with originals and photographs, various aspects of this documentation and its problems (provenance, dating, materials, writing, deciphering, identification). Research using a computer is also taught.
Course objective : The course demonstrates the contribution of Greek and Latin literary papyri and their importance in the knowledge of ancient literatures and their cultural context during a period of more than a thousand years.
Prerequisites : Ability to read Greek.
Organization : 30 hours (first semester); 2 hours a week
