Course contents : Hominid remains are presented in their relation to general human evolution: anatomy and culture. Processes of convergence are especially clear here, in technological and mythological development, in comparison with the rest of the Old World. In particular, the origin of an autonomous agriculture forms one of the distinct characteristics of Far-Eastern prehistory. The mythology of hunter-gatherers still influences historical religious thought.
Course objective : Development of civilisation in eastern Asia and first hominid settlement of China. Relations with other regions of the Old World. Origins of religious and aesthetic patterns recognised in historic civilisations.
Prerequisites : None, but a minimum of knowledge in the sciences is helpful.
Organization : Duration and period: 30h, 2nd semester.

Classroom and schedule: Auditorium A4/S100 (building A4), Wednesday, 2-4 pm.
Written notes : A bibliography of the major reference works is distributed at the beginning of the year. Illustrations are distributed during courses.
