Course contents : The different types of sedimentary rocks are described and interpreted in relation with the environment of deposition. Criteria for recognition and interpretation of rocks are based mainly on thin section examination.
Course objective : Capability to recognize and interpret sedimentary rocks and sedimentary environments.
Prerequisites : GEOL0017-1 Géologie générale
Workshops : Practical work is focused on thin section examination and interpretation. In a first stage, emphasis is putted on the recognition of the rock type; in a second stage, an interpretation of the sedimentary environment is asked.
