Course contents : Soils mechanics : introduction, granular materials, physical properties, classification, water - soil interaction , mechanical properties, soil equilibrium state.

Slope stability and lanslides.

Retaining structures, weight walls, sheet piles.

Foundation design, shallow and deep structures.

Road design.
Course objective : Introduction to geotechnics
Prerequisites : solid mechanics
Workshops : Practical work in classroom, in order to practicise the theory, building site vist, laboratory visit, references research.
Organization : 2nd semester

Assessment : written and oral examination, reports, oral presentation.
