| Credits/ECTS : |
| |
| | | |
| Holder(s) : | Thierry Van Cutsem | |
| | | |
| | | |
| Course contents :
| 1. Introduction. Description of production, transmission and distribution of electric energy, illustration on the Belgian system.
2. Review of basic notions. Powers in sinusoidal regime, balanced three-phase systems.
3. Description and modelling of the main components, analysis of their behaviour. Transmission line, per unit system, power transformer, synchronous generator (with its voltage regulation).
4. Analysis of steady-state operating conditions. The load flow computation.
5. Computation of post-disturbance operating points. Behaviour and modelling of loads. Frequency regulation. Steady-state security analysis.
6. Unbalanced and/or faulted operating conditions. Analysis of balanced faults, Analysis of unbalanced operation. | |
| | | |
| Course objective :
| This course is an introduction to Electric Power System engineering. It deals with the modelling and the operation of the main components, in normal steady-state operating conditions, during a fault, or after a disturbance. The main controls (voltage and frequency) are also described. | |
| | | |
| Prerequisites :
| A general course in Electrical circuits | |
| | | |
| Workshops :
| Lectures include exercices solved by the lecturer. A personal assignment based on these and using the ARTERE and MATLAB software is then requested to the student. | |
| | | |
| Organization :
| The course is taught during the 1st and the 2nd term of the academic year. | |
| | | |
| Written notes :
| Detailed course notes are available on paper and in electronic (PDF) format | |
| | | |
| Assessment :
| Written examination on theory. Personal assignment for the practical part (report to be delivered). | |
