ELEC0016-1

Electric Energy Networks

Duration :30h Th, 30h Pr
Credits/ECTS :
5th year of the 5 year degree in civil engineering in electromechanics (energetics)5
Holder(s) :Jean‑Louis Lilien
Course contents : Consumption-production balance, Power generation and 150 kV, 220 kV and 400 kV network in Belgium, interconnection (10h), overhead lines and underground cables (constitution, design) (10h). Apparatuses, insulation coordination (6h). Load flow and short-circuit calculation.
Course objective : A general overview of power systems, mainly oriented to high voltage. Including load flow and short-crcuit calculation.
Prerequisites : Basic electricity (including Maxwell equations, electric and mgnatic fields, power definitions, three-phase regimes). Some knowledge in heat transfer, apllied mechanics and material behaviour is needed.
Workshops : Visit of installations (substations, cable manufacturers), calculation of inductance of actual line, load flow on three nodes simple systems (by hand calculation) and on larger system by computer tools, evaluation of short-circuit level in networks (only symmetric) (30h).
Organization : 1st quadrilmester, 2hours/week/lecture. 4 hour/week/exercices.
Written notes : a published partial part and another distributed during lectures.
Assessment : Oral examination only. Reports on exercices.
