Introduction to penal law and criminology (partim penal law)

Course contents : As an introduction course to criminal law, this course situates criminal law in the historical, social and juridical sphere.
Course objective : Following themes are dealt with :
- the historical development of criminal law and its philosophy ;
- the sources of criminal law ;
- the basic principles of criminal law ;
- the application of criminal law in time, space and towards the person ;
- the crime : the constitutive elements, the classification ;
- the punishable attempt and the punishable participation ;
- the punishment.
Prerequisites : Introduction to judiciary law. Criminal law. Criminal law procedure
Workshops : Practical cases
Organization : Ex cathedra lecture during the first part of the year.
Tutorials : Exercices sessions.
Written notes : Students have a book, which is available to Faculty of Law's Legal Editions. This book is subjected to regular updates, in order to be as near as possible of the current events.

Students have to acquire by themselves an exemplary of the Penal Code.
Assessment : Written exam (first, second and third examination period)
