Chemistry of Dental Materials

Course contents : - Introduction : definitions, choice of dental materials and properties used to characterize them.

-Matter states (alloys and amalgams)

-Solubility of mineral salts (including dental enamel) and influence of the pH and fluorure anion

-General properties of polymers and their more specific use in dentistry.
Course objective : To demonstrate the importance of the chemical properties of materials used every day in the dental practice in relation with their ultimate fate ( filling materials, inlays, partial or total dentures, restoration materials, etc...)
Prerequisites : Basic course of general and organic chemistry
Organization : 1h30 per week in the second quadrimester during 7 or 8 weeks.
An interactive reexamination of the course is programmed some days before the written examination (according to the wishes of the students).
Written notes : Lecture notes are sold at the beginning of the second quadrimester
Assessment : Written examination
