Course contents : Partim Group Theory : Determination of the molecules' symmetries and use of these in normal vibration modes and molecular orbitals calculations.
Course objective : Group symmetry notion. Identification of the symmetry elements and punctual group symmetry of common molecules. Representation theory and application to normal vibrational modes. Translational symmetry and crystalline systems.
Prerequisites : Group theory : notions in geometry and matrix algebra.
Workshops : Group theory : Exercices with symmetries and vibrational modes of molecules.
Written notes : One copy of the course syllabus will be distributed at the end of the first lesson.
Assessment : The student's abilities will be evaluated during a written exam consisting in both theory and exercices/applications parts.
