CHIM0219-1

Industrial polymers

Duration :15h Th
Credits/ECTS :
2nd "licence" chemical sciences2
Holder(s) :Philippe Dubois
Course contents : This course aims at analyzing the time evolution of thermoplastic, elastomer and thermoset industrial materials since their discovery beginning of 20th century till nowadays. The key milestones crossed over and the related scientific principles will be presented and discussed. A special attention will be drawn on multiphase polymeric materials and polymeric composites.
Furthermore, this course will summarize the main material, technological, economical and legal (patent rights) problems encountered within this particular industry, so important in our today life environment.
Course objective : The main objective of this course relies upon the study of main polymeric materials industrially produced and encountered all around us. It will focus on the principal methods of production, the physico-chemical and thermo-mechanical properties of polymeric materials as well as their applications.
Prerequisites : Course entitled "Macromolecular Chemistry" (Prof. R. Jérôme) in 2nd licence in chemistry sciences.
Organization : Course with transparencies
Written notes : Copy of transparencies
Assessment : Written exam
