Course contents : 1. The living cell: prokaryoes and eukaryotes
2. Protein structure and structure of nucleic acids
3. DNA replication, transcription, synthesis of proteins
4. Protein function
5. Structure and function of biological membranes
6. Metabolic energy: photosyntesis and glucose and fatty acid degradation.
Course objective : Give the engineering students a very general overview of the properties of the living cells and of biomolecules and of the utilisation of energy by living organisms.
Prerequisites : General, physical and organic chemitry, level BSc 2.
Organization : Seven 2-hr lectures.
Written notes : Available.
Assessment : Oral exam
