CHIM0019-2

Macromolecular chemistry (including a day trip to a factory)

Duration :20h Th, 20h Pr
Credits/ECTS :
4th year of the 5 year degree in civil engineering in chemist3
Holder(s) :Robert Jérôme
Course contents : The first part of the course is a detailed discussion of all the known mechanisms for the synthesis of macromolecules. The second part is devoted to the hydrodynamic properties of polymers. The structure of the cours is such that the general behaviour of polymers can be understood at the molecular level and justifies the large range of their application fields.
Course objective : This course aims at being a unique synthesis of the main concepts of organic chemistry and physical chemistry taught to the students until then.
Prerequisites : Good knowledge of organic chemistry; basic knowledge of physical chemistry.
Workshops : 5 half days, with the purpose to illustrate the major themes of the course.
Organization : 10 courses of 2h each.
5 half days of practical exercises.
Written notes : Made available to the students for photocopy.
Assessment : Written exam (half a day).
Critical analysis of a scientific publication.
