Course contents : This course deals with two important steps of a scientific study : the search for informations and the transmission of new data to other researchers. The main tools used for bibliographic searching, especially on line methods, will be presented. Different forms of scientific communication will be dealt with, with more emphasis on poster presentations and lectures. Each student will have to give two seminars based on two recent scientific publications. The evaluation will take into account the quality of the presentation, the capacity to analyse and criticise the published results, their interpretation, and the perspectives.
Course objective :
  • Introduction to the main methods used in bibliographic studies;
  • Introduction to oral communication;
  • Improve capacity to critisise and to summarise the scientific literature.
Prerequisites : No.
Organization : Lectures and seminars will take place in one of the lecture rooms of B-22 building.
Written notes : None.
Assessment : Both seminars presented by the student will be evaluated at the level of its technical aspects, as well at the level of its content. Twenty five percent of the final mark will depend on the first seminar, and the remaining 75% on the second. The involvement in the discussion of seminars presented by the other students will also be taken into account (max. 10% of the final mark).
