BIOL0350-1

Pharmaceutical applications of molecular biology

Duration :10h Th
Credits/ECTS :
5th year of the 5 year degree in pharmacist2
Holder(s) :Jean‑Paul Chapelle, Alain Chariot
Course contents : The course gives information on the various applications of the techniques of molecular biology in the field of pharmaceutical sciences. After an introduction devoted to a short recall of molecular biology, the first part of the course consists in showing, using examples drawn from the field of the oncology and inflammatory pathologies, how new pharmacological targets are identified and how the drugs intended are developed to rectify a faulty physiological mechanism. The second part of the course exposes the techniques of bio-engineering applied to the preparation of recombining proteins used like bio-drugs (insulin, interferon-a, interleukine-10...). The new therapeutic approaches, such as the genic therapy and the use of the "interfering" ARN, which offer more targeted approach of the treatment, constitute the third part of the course. Lastly, the last part of the course is devoted to the new diagnostic approaches: on the one hand, the PCR and its interest in the diagnosis and the follow-up of leukaemias, on the other hand, the microphone-arrays and their interest to establish a profile of form of genes and to allow a treatment adapted better in particular pathologies.
Course objective : The objective of the course is to show the part growing which play biotechnologies in the development of new drugs and the development of various tests making it possible to improve the effectiveness of the treatments
