| Part 1 Responses to plant pathogens
- Plant-pathogen interactions, desease and resistance - Plant defense systems, genetic basis, resistance genes, gene for gene model, receptor-elicitor, SAR
Part 2 Abiotic stresses
- Freezing stress : cold acclimation to subfreezing temperatures, biomembrane and fluidity, lipidic composition, freezing tolerance and gene expression - Water deficit and salinity : osmotic adjustment, transport across plant membranes, LEA proteins, osmotins, SOS system - Detoxification : xenobiotic molecules, chimical transformation, compartmentation - Mineral toxicity and heavy metals : membrane transport, mettalothionein, glutathion,... | |
| | | |
| Course objective :
| Plants frequently encounter stresses, biotic and abiotic external conditions that affect growth and development. Stresses trigger a wide range of responses at both the cellular and molecular levels. Plant responses clearly demonstrate their complex plasticity. The aim of the lectures will be to illustrate some of the complex cellular and molecular processes which enable a plant to acclimate to stress. | |
| | | |
| Prerequisites :
| Students should have a basic knowledge of plant physiology | |
| | | |
| Organization :
| Schedule will be sent out to all students | |
| | | |
| Written notes :
| Lectures are given by using laptop and presentation software which allow a wide distribution of the diaporamas. | |
| | | |
| Assessment :
| Examination details will be defined at the beginning of the academic year. | |
