Course contents : Partim I : MOREAU J 15h
The beginning of the course reviews general concepts required for a good understanding of the subject:
- general principles concerning the functioning and organization of the central nervous system, on which all addictive drugs act
- notions of general pharmacology (pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics) making it possible to understand the relationship between the amount of drug absorbed and the effect obtained
The main part of the course details the pharmacology of the various addictive drugs and of some therapeutic compounds useful in the treatment of addiction. The various drugs are studied in relation with the neurotransmitter systems involved in their effects.
For each drug, informations are given about structure, origin (natural or synthetic), pharmacological effects, pharmacokinetics, sites and mechanisms of action, toxicity and adverse effects, including abuse potential and treatment of dependence.

Partim II: LARBUISSON R 10h
Pain and analgesics. Prescriptions and dependences. Addictions in ill patients. Addictions in sports.
Course objective : In his first part, the aim of the course is to give students a good understanding of the (wanted or unwanted)psychological and physical effects of the main addictive drugs as well as a good understanding of the mechanisms involved in these effects. In the second part, the course treats of the relation between the medications prescribed for the treatment of some diseases and the development of addiction in sick or sane idividuals
